Morning Circle
The Beginning Ritual of Our Daily Homeschool
We open with "N is for Namaste" from the Gaiam DVD Yoga Kids, Vol. 2: ABC's

N is for Namaste

I am you and you are me. I am part of all I see.
Namaste. Namaste. Namaste. Namaste.

I am the light and the light is me.

Namaste. Namaste. Namaste. Namaste.
I am part of all I see.

The light in me sees the light in you
Bow to me, I bow to you

The light in me sees the light in you
Bow to me, I bow to you.

The light in me sees the light in you
Bow to me, I bow to you.
Namaste.
Namaste.

Next is poems or songs about the month of the year, day of the week, seasons and weather.

The 'Today Is' Song (to the tune of Frere Jaques)

Today is _______, today is ________.
All day long, all day long.
Yesterday was _______, yesterday was _______,
Oh what fun! Oh what fun!
(repeat song)

We recite a poem about the month of the year we are in.

This is followed by a song or two about the weather we observe outside.
(using as much movement as possible)

     Sunny Songs

     Rainy Songs

Any ideas for windy songs? Please leave your ideas on our comments page!

We do various finger plays. Where is Thumbkin, Church and Steeple, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, are all popular ones. I'll put up a more thorough list another time.

Then we wind down. I like to do this by reading a book about the season we are in or are about to transition into.

We close with Ring Around the Rosy... mostly because the kids love it... and the Irish blessing, May the Road Rise Up to Meet You.

Ring Around The Rosie

Ring around the rosie,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes, Ashes,
We all fall down.

May the Road Rise Up to Meet You

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rain fall soft upon your footsteps.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
