Meet the Cast
Llana (me)
Pro-Mom and homeschooling parent, Llana is the sociological mad scientist that cooks up all our strategies and crazy ideas.
Reina
Cute daughter, "kindergartener," and daily adventure seeker, Reina loves to have fun, sneak around, and snuggle with her family.
Jayce
Son, sweet boy, and resident Toddler of the Terrible Two's, Jayce has a great sense of humor and tends to be the much needed comic relief. He is the wild-card.
Jeremiah
Meet Dad. He works the week away and is rarely able to be involved in the schooling process. He certainly keeps our weekends interesting though, and he takes Reina with him to Jiu-Jitsu training.
Done With the Year! We did it!
Saturday, May 20, 2008
Wow, we actually did it. We got through our first year of public school curriculum. Even though we've homeschooled for 3 years total, this is our first run outside a private (though accredited) institution.
Reina has graduated Kindergarten (at 1st grade level)!!
What is even more amazing to me is that we finished out early! I really thought Reina would slow down this year. A 5 year old doing 6 year old work is especially challenging when the more advanced spelling and math comes into play. I thought she'd trip a bit, but she didn't. She traversed the curriculum very gracefully and almost never had a challenge she couldn't overcome within a few hours. I'm very proud of her and happy for us all.
What now? Well I have a summer program all my own as we wait for September to bring us another year with CAVA. We'll have a little vacation the rest of this week while I put together a schedule for Jayce. (He is my summer focus.)
Reina will be starting the following:
Latin
Latin Elementary School Year 1 from PowerGlide.
History
Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Volume 1: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to the Last Roman Emperor, Revised Edition
Science
NOVA - Origins and maybe some other resources about the beginning of the earth.
We'll study the emergence of life and evolution.
Reina is really excited to learn more about Dinosaurs, so when we've finished the early earth basics, that will be our focus for the rest of the summer.
I'll include all that info on Our Homeschool World page.
