Meet the Cast

Llana (me)

Pro-Mom and homeschooling parent, Llana is the sociological mad scientist that cooks up all our strategies and crazy ideas.

Reina

Cute daughter, "kindergartener," and daily adventure seeker, Reina loves to have fun, sneak around, and snuggle with her family.

Jayce

Son, sweet boy, and resident Toddler of  Three, Jayce has a great sense of humor and tends to be the much needed comic relief. He is the wild-card.

Jeremiah

Meet Dad. He works the week away and is rarely able to be involved in the schooling process. He certainly keeps our weekends interesting though, and he takes Reina with him to Jiu-Jitsu training.

About Us
We've been homeschooling since 2005. Our approach is customized to support the interests and learning style of the individual student. We also believe strongly in allowing children to develop trades and life skills they show interest in from an early age. As a parent, we look at ourselves as guides and facilitators more than anything else.

News and Summer Highlights
Tuesday, June 10, 2008

No, I don't mean hair color highlights. Lots has been going on this summer. We did start the PowerGlide Latin program. I was a bit disappointed in it. Maybe I haven't gotten to the good stuff yet, but so far its just been characters acting out a story in which they use some latin words occasionally. Its like a book, with one picture per section. I just wish it was more visual or interactive. They claim to have games and things. I guess I'll have to keep at it and see. Reina seems to be enjoying it ok though.

I was thrilled to find that CAVA (California Virtual Academy) is allowing an option this year where students may choose a language class in place of the music class. This is a fabulous idea. Reina is looking forward to starting Spanish in the fall.

In personal news, we're having a baby! Its due Valentines Day, February 14th, 2009! Very exciting. Having Jayce shook up our homeschooling schedule a couple years back. Here's hoping that I've grown and adjusted enough that the new addition to the family transitions in easily and without turning our groove on its ear. :) I think it will be ok. I'm very optimistic.

I'm still absolutely loving homeschooling. I suppose it isn't for everyone, but its suiting our family quite well. This September brings us to the beginning of our 4th year homeschooling! I can't wait for Jayce to start more involved learning, but he's not ready yet. Still, I'm going to organize some new activities for him this year as well. Get a little bit of a more structured preschool going here. We've done this on and off this summer already and he really loves the time.

I'm looking forward to putting the final touches on our 2008-2009 year plan.
